Ad Limina visit

The Latin term ad limina implies the obligation of Diocesan Bishops of visiting Holy
Father, different departments of the Holy See and the Tomb of Apostles Peter and Paul. The
object of the visit is not merely to make a pilgrimage to the tombs of the apostles but also to
show the proper reverence for the Successor of St. Peter, to acknowledge his universal
jurisdiction by giving a report of the activities of the Diocese. Both, Holy Father and Holy See
having studied the reports submitted imparts their admonitions and advices regarding the
proper administration of the Diocese.
As the Bishop of Shamshabad, Mar Raphael Thattil too go for ad limina visit along with the Major
Archbishop and all the Bishops of the Syro-Malabar Church. At this juncture he submits for the first time the report
of our diocese after its establishment. After celebrating Holy Qurbana on the Tomb of St. Peter
and Paul in the morning (08.30 am), Holy Father Pope Francis will receive the Syro-Malabar
Bishops on Thursday 3 rd October 2019 (from 10.00 am to 01.00 pm). Following days Bishops will be
meeting the different departments of the Holy See for discussion regarding the administration
of our dioceses in the light of the reports submitted.
On 29-9-2019 Bishop went to Rome to participate in the Ad Limina visit and he will come back on 04-11-2019
